As a former youth pastor and homeschool mom of 10 years, Mary is passionate about walking alongside teens through the joys and challenges of growing up.

And as an adoption advocate, C.J. is committed to creating safe, hope-filled spaces for young people to dream big.

In other words, we have heart for writers, teens, and for the parents who guide them.

So Why a Teen Writing Institute?

In our previous careers, we were both:

• Teachers: one in classical education, one in public school settings.

• Experienced curriculum developers with a knack for blending academics, creativity, and real-world application.

We decided to create The Teen Authors Institute because we’ve seen the gap: teens with incredible ideas were being taught about writing but weren’t always given the tools, structure, and encouragement to actually become writers. We wanted to provide what we wish had existed for us in high school — and later, what we wish had been available when we homeschooled our own kids: a program that combines solid literary foundations with hands-on, exciting, real-world application.

What We Do Here

• Teach 2 years’ worth of high school English using our Classical Storycraft Method.

• Guide students through the story writing process, step-by-step from idea → outline → first draft → polished novel → author website.

• Build confidence, voice, and professional-level storytelling skills.

• Create a safe, inspiring environment where teens can take risks, dream big, and produce work they’re proud of.

We believe writing isn’t just about putting words on a page. It’s about learning the discipline, courage, and creativity that will serve you in every part of life. Whether your teen dreams of publishing or simply wants to grow as a storyteller and thinker, we’re here to cheer them on every step of the way.

C.J. lives on the East Coast with her husband and children; Mary lives on the West Coast with her husband and children. Different time zones, same mission: to give teens the tools, guidance, and encouragement to tell their stories well.
